SM, the largest mall chain in the Philippines has vowed not to show R-18 movies including the controversial Da Vinci Code. Yesterday, the Tom Hanks thriller received an R rating from the Movie Review Classification Board.
SM's new policy has been in implemented for a number of months now and all I can say is that it's pure BS.
Why ban R-18 movies when this same mall allows video shops to sell sexy video flicks?
Why ban R-18 movies when the Sy family has been embroiled in a couple of business controversy (though in a hush-hush tone) this past months?
Wht ban R-18 movies when this same mall allows the screening of inane Steven Seagal action films?
And why ban R-18 movies when we could easily buy pirated copies? They're just giving us reason to support piracy.
Brokeback Mountain was not shown in SM cinemas because of the dreaded R and it still made money.
The Sy family has really stamped the "Sy" in hypocriSY.
